Minor Scales

Many pieces of music are based on the notes of major scales, but a lot of music uses minor scales. While there is one kind of major scale with a specific pattern of whole steps and half steps, there are a several different minor scales. We can make general observations about music written in major and minor keys. While these characteristics are not set in stone, music in major keys can often be described as bright, happy, or cheerful, while music in minor keys can tend to be darker, stormy, or sad.

The first minor scale we will learn is the natural minor scale.
